A focused and intelligent player, Monty exhibits the leadership qualities that any team would benefit from. He is a focused and hard working athlete that projects to above average size. Currently, with a tall and thin frame, Monty will benefit from added strength as his body matures and fills out. At 13 years old, he already shows the desired traits to become a plus athlete into high school (and beyond); e.g., dedicated to training and a "no days off" mentality. On the field, Monty is a versatile infielder who can play all three positions. At third base, he displays a strong and accurate arm with good reflexes. As a middle infielder, his plus footwork and glove, combined with his high baseball IQ, allow him to make plays and provide steady leadership. Monty has consistently displayed an ability to make plays ranging to either side, and excels at reading hops and making room. He would benefit from added refinement at charging the ball, when needed, and making plays on the run. At the plate, Monty has proven himself to be a patient and smart hitter. He often works deep into counts, allowing his teammates chances to see pitches and extend the pitcher. Monty is primarily a contact hitter who can hit the gap from time to time with quick hands and good coordination. His swing and timing are compact and smooth, with a neutral stance. Monty will benefit from adding muscle as his body matures to add power to his mechanically sound swing. Monty excels on the basepaths. His average quickness is made up for by his reads and situational awareness, allowing him to steal bases and take advantage of defensive mistakes with ease. Due to his intelligence and tools, Monty fits anywhere in the line-up easily. As a pitcher, Monty displays superior command with multiple pitches that he can throw for strikes. He commands the zone, and gets outs with a combination of movement, timing, and location. Monty consistently shows three kinds of fastballs (4-seam, 2-seam, and Cutter) that he can place anywhere in the zone. Look for him to add overall velocity as he continues to grow and add muscle. Monty also shows significant promise with a 12-6 curveball and a changeup that bites down and glove-side. He displays superior mechanics with a righthanded arm-slot, excellent pace and timing, and plus fielding from the pitcher position.
